The Samsung KidsTime Authors’ Award (SKTAA) is back! SKTAA is a joint initiative between the National Book Development Council of Singapore (NBDCS) and Samsung KidsTime. The award seeks to turn both published and unpublished picture books from ASEAN into digital apps for the Samsung KidsTime platform, so that local and regional content can be available to a wider audience. Lay Har and Lay Koon have published several books with Oyez! including the Calistro Prize Award Winner 2012 - Master & Apprentice, and Atuk’s Amazing Sarong. Lay Koon also illustrated books by Gwen Smith – Pigeon Post and Other Stories, Golda Mowe - The Nanobots and Other Stories, and Heidi Shamsuddin - The Mystery of the Missing National Anthem and The Case of the Talented Trio. The SKTAA 2016 will award up to two grand prize winners and eight second prize winners from each ASEAN nation, for a staggering total of up to 100 winners! Grand prize winners will see their work become mobile apps on the Samsung KidsTime platform and win $2,000 SGD cash, while 2nd prize winners will see their work become mobile apps on the Samsung KidsTime platform. The award will be presented at the 2016 Asian Festival of Children’s Content (AFCC) in Singapore. The picture books, whether published or unpublished, can be in any language, but must be accompanied by a basic English translation for the purposes of assessment. Submissions are open from 21 October 2015 till 04 January 2016. The Festival Sastera Kanak-kanak 2015 (Children's Literature Festival), organised by the Perbadanan Kota Buku started today with a bang followed by an award ceremony. Oyez!Books is proud to win the Children's Book Publisher Award and thank all our wonderful authors and illustrators and of course, Kota Buku for their wonderful initiative. We feel encouraged and motivated to publish even more wonderful works by Malaysian authors and illustrators. And we congratulate Emila Yusof who took home five awards in different categories: 1. Parent's Choice Award for My Father's Farm 2. Best Illustrator Award 3. Best Picture Book Award for Legendary Princesses of Malaysia 4. Best Early Reader Picture Book Award - My Father's Farm 5. Third Prize: Early Reader Picture Book Award - My Mother's Kitchen Nor Azhar Ishak, author and illustrator of the book, Under the Sea, done entirely in batik medium was also awarded best book in the 6-12 years old category. In the picture book category, two books published by Oyez!Books won the second and third prize respectively: - The Castle Library by Hayati Hanif and Evi Shelvia - The Last Dream of the Old Oak Tree illustrated by Chooi Ling Keiong And a big congratulations and well-deserved recognition for Yusof Gajah who received the Children's Literature Accolade from KotaBuku, which the highest award for the festival. Finally, Congratulations to all the other winners. Oyez!Books will try to talk to the publishers to sell those books in www.oyezbookstore.com so that our readers can appreciate the range of quality Malaysian titles available. According to KotaBuku, 646 entries were submitted from 27 publishers. Thank You KotaBuku!
