Pustaka Bookaroo Festival of Children's Literature 2016

Pustaka Bookaroo Festival of Children’s Literature is back! Running from 16-17 April at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak in Kuching, it promises to be an exciting affair with a lineup of international and local authors, illustrators, storytellers and more. With the theme Bringing Children and Books Together, the weekend will be packed with storytelling, crafts, doodling, poetry and art workshops for children from 4 up to 12 years of age. This event is truly something for parents, children, teachers, educators and just about anyone who is interested in promoting books and reading for children, to look forward to.

Speakers at the event come from far and wide such as India, Singapore, and Australia. From Malaysia, five Oyez!Books authors/ illustrators will also be participating at the event! They are :

• Mahaya Mohd Yassin – award-winning author of children’s books, novels, poetry, memoirs and more, will be showing children how delightful poems can be.

• Hasniah Hussain (Mama Tok) – Best Narrator at the 16th International Storytelling Festival and author, will be bringing stories to life with movement and drama.
• Nor Azhar Ishak – author and illustrator of Under the Sea, a beautiful book illustrated usng the batik method, will be conducting storytelling, doodling and a mini art workshop.

• Heidi Shamsuddin – author of The Door Under the Stairs series about three children who travel back in time, will be sharing stories from her books, touching on famous personalities such as Tunku Abdul Rahman, P. Ramlee and Mokhtar Dahari.

• Lim Lay Koon – author and illustrator of Menagerie, and illustrator of Atuk’s Amazing Sarong and other books such as The Nanobots and Other Stories and The Door Under the Stairs series, will be doing storytelling, games, craft and doodling.

Bookaroo Festival was founded in India in 2008 and made its debut in Kuching last year in partnership with Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, the National State Library. Check out the exciting programme and download the schedule at the Bookaroo website.
